"A woman playing a woman, Where's the trick in that?" Welcome to the 17th century stage where Ned Kynaston's performance of Desdemona in Shakespeare's Othello brings down the house nightly. That is until King Charles II renounces the royal edict that only men can play women on stage. Enter Margaret Hughes, an aspiring star, who is terrified at the prospect of playing Desdemona. She solicits Ned's assistance forcing him to supress his feminine traits and "make a man of himself." A powerful, hilarious and moving tribute to art, artists and the enduring nature of love.
