— Fullerton College Hornet - Lisa Gonzalez - Thursday, October 4th, 2001Jealousy, passion, and musical genius; all the elements of intrigue that the production of "AMADEUS" is certain to offer.
The show will prove compelling and entertaining as it pres ents the story of a legendary musical genius in an operatic quality.
"Amadeus" by Peter Shaffer, is the winner of five Tony .Awards 'for, Best Play, Best Direction, Best Actor, :Best Scenic Design and Best Lighting.
"Amadeus" received eight Academy Awards including Best Picture, Best Screenplay (based on material from another medium), Best Director, and Best Actor. It has been translated in 22 different languages and nominated 12 times in its-most recent revival in 1999.
"Amadeus" delves into the relationship of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a musical genius, and his mentor Antonio Salieri, a court composer. The play revolves around the granting of Godly gifts to a genius who also happens to be a 'tactless, malicious, impatient, and spiteful exhibitionist.
Many exhausting hours have gone into the skillful preparation of the show from elaborate scenery production, sound, lighting, to the exquisite costumes. The actors themselves are also preparing mentally for their performance.
In visiting the theater to experience the magic of bringing Mozart's story to life, there was a strong passion in each person rehearsing.
Wonderful voices rang out in the theater hallways as students rehearsed casually together; stage crews were fine tuning every detail for perfection, and costume designers were doing tedious needlework for the creation of beautiful flowing costumes. All of these orchestrated to a time schedule of deadlines with the approach of opening night.
"Because the story of Amadeus takes place in the 18th century, the costumes are being exquisitely made by Costume and Makeup Designer, Meta Hoyt-Heydon, and by Fullerton College Students," Bob Jensen, Managing Director, said.
The Fullerton College Theatre Arts Department will take the stage for opening night on Thursday, October 11 at 8:00 p.m. Additional show dates are October. 12 - 13, and 18 -20. All show times are at 8:00 p.m. On Sunday, October 14, the production will, begin at 2:00 p.m.
