"AMADEUS" play is a triumphant success for FC theater
— Fullerton College Hornet - Lisa Gonzalez - Wednesday, October 17th, 2001The, cast of "Amadeus" brings ,to life the story of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, a tactless, impatient and musical genius. With the Campus Theater filled to almost full capacity,- hushed whispers are abounding among the audience with anticipation of the production.
The play begins with an eerie ocean of darkness filling the theater and groups of figures, black as night enter the aisles from the shadows, whispering rumors about the aging Amadeus who is curled up, 'sitting in a wood fashioned wheelchair with his back to the audience.
The audience laughed as actor John Goodson, who plays Amadeus, giggled and cursed on stage while at the same time performing serious scenes showing Mozart's struggle with being a musical genius and adjusting to, royal political standards. When asked about Goodson playing the role of Amadeus, director Chuck Fetter said "He's a, wonderfully committed young actor and willing to take risks".
Actor John Beane, a philosophy major at Fullerton College, plays Antonio Salieri. Beane gives a truly inspiring performance with tear-filled emotion and deep sincerity. His voice boomed out across the stage as Beane cried out his anger to God of Mozart's musical genius and his life of mediocrity.
"When he walked in at auditions, all of a sudden, there was a presence," 'Ketter said. "In the auditions he showed me an incredible ease of communicating with us, which you have to have in the role of Salieri."
The musical score of the play can be greatly appreciated, because of the campus theater's excellent sound presentation. The period of the play was illustrated with wonderful makeup and flamboyant costumes. "Amadeus" is a truly must see play.
