Dreams of heartbreak

Fullerton College's Theatre Arts Department is set to premiere Robert Harling's play, Steel Magnolias this Thursday in the Bronwyn Dodson Theatre. The Broadway play, turned famously into a 1989 film, examines the lives of six Southern women in a small town Louisiana beauty parlor. What appears as a simple concept about women delves deep into the complications that life encompasses: dreams of happiness, love and heartbreak.

The play unfolds on the day of Shelby Eatenton's (Beatrice Collins) wedding to Jackson Latcherie. Over the course of three years the audi-ence is given a glimpse of the hardships that the central characters endure. Diabetic Eatenton's decision to have a child sends the beauty parlor regulars, owned by Truvy (Keri Werlinich) into a tizzy.

M'Lynn (Laura Delhauer), Eatenton's all too caring mother and her lively set of friends fill the play with a blend of sassiness that conveys the message of love between a group of friends.

Chuck Ketter, a fourteen year master of theater productions directs Steel Magnolias and is confident that the upcoming performances will be well received.

"We were able to shorten some of the rehearsals this weekend because we felt that the actors were adapting to the technique elements really well." Ketter said.

Promotions Coordinator Dana Brown believes that the all female cast will interest people of all ages and backgrounds.

"I think it's a play that people at FC will relate to. There are some comedic parts that will have people laughing as well and although it's an all female cast I think everyone will enjoy it" Brown said.
