About the event

Gilbert & Sullivan’s The Pirates of Penzance arrives on the Fullerton College stage this spring in a fresh new reimagining set in 1957 Catalina. This production honors the classical score while transporting audiences to a sun-drenched island world of seaside docks and bars confronting postwar redevelopment and growing commercialization. Against the backdrop of Avalon’s coastal charm, fishermen, police, and vacationing tourists collide in a playful landscape of local color and mischievous rebellion. Through the creativity and collaboration of Fullerton College students, this vibrant visual and narrative frame casts new Southern Californian light on Gilbert & Sullivan’s iconic operetta.
